Tropical Blooms enjoys the benefits of being located on a truly unique parcel of land. This is no accident and was the culmination of six months worth of research and searching for the ideal block back in 1986.

The farm is 4.82 hectares with most of the boundary surrounded by an extensive area of lush rainforest. We are lucky to be able to enjoy the best of both worlds so to speak. Private country living and yet only minutes from all city facilities.

Positioned on the "high side" bank (no flooding) of the permanent Mackey Creek which is a major feeder flowing into the Cairns Inlet. The property is situated at a point called Packers Camp where the creek twists and turns on itself. This area was a small township early last century and was not cleared for cane, thus leaving a pocket of dense rainforest. The creek and rainforest form over 80% of our boundary effectively isolating the farm from surrounding areas.

Flora and fauna on the farm are diverse. We have barramundi and other fish in the creek and many species of small animals including the rare sugar glider possum. Green rainforest frogs are thriving and a huge number of birds flourish in the large trees. The Cairns Ornithological society identified over 50 species of birds in one visit to our farm.

Many exotic trees such a Cedar, Silky Oak and Milky Pine grow along the creek. We use almost no poisonous
spays in growing our flowers in an effort to maintain a clean environment around the farm.

For us lifestyle and a safe relaxing environment were as important as the requirements needed to grow our exotic flowers. As can be seen in the picture above the block is a battle axe shape with all living and growing areas set well back from the road. In the years we have been here we have not had a single incident or unwelcome visitor. No theft, no vandalism, no abusive drunks, no strange visitors.

Aesthetically the outlook is stunning. No matter which way you look you are surrounded by lush green rainforest with mountains in the background and yet you do not have a feeling of being closed in or overwhelmed by the jungle. The large cleared production area gives the feeling of unlimited space and freedom.

The tall rainforest surrounding the farm makes an excellent filter to turn the strong trade winds into a pleasant cooling breeze that freshens and revitalises. The rainforest is also a great protector against the rare occurrence of any tropical storm that might come our way.

Whilst this unique parcel of land offers a safe and relaxed environment it is also a superb place for growing our tropical flowers. The deep rich soil is full of earth worms and has no salinity. Soil tests over the years have always shown good levels of trace elements and organic matter. Drainage and water run off over the gently sloping block is excellent and there are no low areas in which water pools.

Mackey Creek which surrounds the block supplies a constant source of high quality irrigation water. The creek is supplemented by two large springs which flow into it on our eastern boundary. In 2000 the Cairns region was declared a drought area for the first time in history and yet we still had ample irrigation water available. Conversely in recent years wet seasons have seen some of the worst flooding in memory in North Queensland and we have had no water or drainage problems at all.

Agents tell us they know of no other acreage blocks this close to Cairns city that offer the features enjoyed here.
